The first few days bring a slight lisp and slower meals, then kids adapt completely and forget it's there. Soft foods help early on; after that, only sticky candies and gum stay off the menu until the expander comes out. Speech is fully back to normal within about a week.
Yes. Alongside traditional banded expanders, we design 3D-printed expanders from your child's digital scan. They fit without separators or goopy impressions and sit lighter and smoother on the palate. Dr. Sarit recommends whichever suits the case.
Once the palate fuses, a standard expander can't widen it, but MARPE, our mini-implant assisted option, makes true expansion possible for older teens and adults, often without surgery. Ask about it at your consultation.
